Missed opportunity by not taking pics of the Conestoga wagon passing through American landmarks, but here’s a couple I snapped during my shift in the Saturn through Shreveport and Dallas. If you’ve never driven through Dallas, don’t. The most horrendous roads EVER, and that’s after driving the everlasting bone-jarring concrete in Mississippi!!

We have liftoff!!
In bed at 2:30am and up at 6:00 for some final tear-filled farewells before our 7:00am departure, today is the day we’ve been anticipating all these months… Lots of mixed emotions, but we’re finally and enthusiastically on the road to fulfill our modern day Manifest Destiny.
New Mexico or BUST!!
Unofficial road trip anthem: “Long White Line” by Sturgill Simpson.
"Aren't you excited????"
That’s what everyone keeps asking… Now, it’s 24 hours away from shoving off, and I’m thinking, “If by excited you mean a complete basket case, then YES!!”
Cocoa to Cuba
We’ll be loading up in just one week. Still much to do before we pull chocks, but we’re getting there. One task now scratched off our to-do list was to plan the driving route from east to west…
Anxiety
The countdown is on… From today, we are looking at roughly eight weeks until departure. Waves of anxiety wash ashore at any given moment, and sleep doesn’t come easy with all the thoughts of things to do.
The Office
Imagine we will have plenty of work to do in building a homestead, but we’re fortunate to have ‘real’ jobs with our awesome company that values its employees and provides the flexibility to work remotely so we can maintain reliable income for future plans.
Hygiene
Understanding that the constructs of the yurt are quite simple, you may quickly jump to think about the most basic of needs – How to go about the shit, shower, and shave routine.
The things you do for Love
Ridiculous. That’s what I originally thought of the ‘pooch pouch‘ because I always had big dogs, and packing around little designer pocket dogs was just a little too ostentatious for this gal. But, here I am, the very proud and unbelievably happy owner of an 8-pound joyful pup we call Radar Love, whom we believe has never left the state of Florida.
Why a yurt?
One of the questions people often ask is why we chose to live in a yurt.
Inspiration
I can’t really say when it was I first discovered Doug Fine, but his story has been a major motivator for this adventure over the years. If you’ve never heard of his book Farewell, My Subaru, I encourage you to become acquainted, and hope you find the same comfort I did in knowing that we all have the power to make our lives what we wish them to be with a little creativity – and a lot of hard work.

Look out, Enchantment, here we come!!
(And, yes, we really did own a Subaru just like this one… Drove it all the way to FL from CO. Where is she now?)
